Dallas Achivers Committee

I agree with the Committee, however I said this same thing in December 2006. I even offer to work for free in March of 2007. Most of the people in administrative positions at DISD or education trained who've been promoted and not trained in the way the real world operates. They go into a job and learn it from who ever was there and nothing changes. A professional manager with training in operations would clean it all out because they know what to look for.

Any professional manager would never allow any package to be delivered COD to the Superintends office without authorization. There are so many things that professional managers would not allow to happen just every day things. I must get back to my City Council race and work see you later.

Good Friend Hard Worker Laid To Rest

One of my very best friends was laid to rest April 12,2007 . She had so much class . All ways on her best. She dressed so nice in the very best. She gave good sound advice and was always ready to hear your problem or what ever you had on your mind. She started out in community service at a very early age so it just came natural for her. We had been friends a while and at a protest downtown one day they needed a person to play piano and she volunteered. I almost fell out she could PLAY. I ask why she had never said she could play? Her reply ! You didn't know?

My first day on the Plan Commission she said "don't worry about anything just watch me and follow my lead and you will be OK" and I was. She was my trainer and nobody knew otherwise.

We talked late into the night about community and world issues. Diane Ragsdale was her sister and a City Council member some time Diane did not want us to worry her.We talked to long on the phone. My friend and I would watch TV together on the phone. We were both sick together back in 2003. I just did not know how sick she was because she never let on. I went by to see her and she was still taking and full of joy and fight. She lost the battle but she fought a good fight.

I will so miss my friend Charlotte .

Being a Candidate In 2007!

I have been involved in politics all my adult life. My very first experience was with Lyndon B.Johnson for U.S.Senate campaign in Austin as a college student. I learned so much from him and how to run a campaign. I participated in other campaigns as a volunteer for the next 30 or so years. I managed John Price's first campaign for Constable we lost by five votes. I worked on Ora Watson's campaign for school board she won and we only had thee workers all volunteers. I then managed John Price's campaign for Commissioner a couple of times. I ran for school board and got 660 votes lost to incumbent Hollis Brasher . I knew my chance was slim but I ran anyway. I was so sick and tired of tax money being spent in Federal Court that I had to get the message out. I won y because the new board approved the request for removal from Federal Court over site.

Back in the day I did not allow anyone to come into our campaign office with gossip about other candidates. I did not allow pulling up any one's signs we had respect for Candidates and their property. We would laugh with other campaign workers offer soda ,water or what ever to help if they had a problem and etc. Never in my life have I seen anything like what is going on now.
When you leave a forum some of your opponents will not speak to you. If you correct something they say it's taken personnel. These are grown adults. I have never see Adults who embellish their credentials and claim retirement when in fact they were not reappointed.
People calling one campaign office to another asking questions, telling lies and all sorts of things.
If these people do this now what on earth will they do if elected? The Black Leadership is in big trouble in Dallas and do I know why. I have been busy minding my own business , at DHA and working this council campaign and my community has been going to hell. There is no trust, people afraid to give you money or use their name for fear of reprisal from certain Elected Officials who support your opponent. But after the election will want all kinds of favors.

I knew when I stood on issues and with different people who have had troubles in the past . I was risking a lot. Many times it was employment but I stood anyway because it was the right thing to do. I put my employment and life on the line many time for causes that helped people and the Community. I am not sorry about any of it but to experience what I am today and see what people are willing to do for a council seat is just unreal. It has nothing to do with helping people it's all about themselves. How could a person decide they would run for public office 25
years ago and not know what the needs would be nor specify what office. It was about what they wanted for themselves not about the people they would serve. Then you have Candidates who have no record of Public Service so they run on other peoples service record and add their names on their support list. I am so happy to have a service track record of my own that my name stands for it's self.
I can stand on my own name. Every place that I have served my record speaks for itself. How Happy I am today that I have a volunteer community service record that voters can be proud of!

Cowboys and Super Bowl Bid

I hope we can put to rest why the Cowboys are not in Dallas. They are not here for the same reason they went to Irving. Dallas City Leaders wanted to dictate where the stadium should be built. They refused to let Clint build where he wanted to, Downtown. Same situation different Leaders , same City and mind set. Nothing seems to change in Dallas but people rotate around and do the same silly things never looking at what it caused the first time around.

Jerry Jones tried doing business with Dallas County to avoid the City of Dallas even got State Law passed for that purpose.

First thing Dallas County Commissioner did was not allow Cowboy vote to be placed on a November ballot , had nothing to do with Cowboy's. Next former Commissioner Jim Jackson wanted the location picked before the County would talk tax share. Already there are two things going wrong. Next the Cowboys made an Offer ,again told pick your location first. Next Council Griffith suggest Fair Park, then Chaney got going on it never once did anyone think, that just maybe the Cowboys do not want to build in Fair Park. It was a good idea but it was not the Cowboys idea.

Now it's Super Bowl bid time and the same Dallas MIND SET Leaders are making more out of this then they should. If they were more informed they would know the NFL has a contract with HYATT for headquarters. If they would just keep quite until it's time to make noise about something that matters. I have attended the past 12 Super Bowls and they are fun and the cities really go all out for the NFL and they make money. If any person on the City Council would just

go and look at the set up they would see there is no way Dallas can lose on a Super Bowl. When Phoenix host Super Bowl ,Tempa and all surrounding cities are full and busy. Dallas City Officials please go outside of Dallas and your hotel rooms and see something for your self. Please leave your office, your car and see the World.

City Bond Sale!

The recent Bond election passed with a good deal of Black support. It was said that this was the first time the Southern Sector was getting so much improvement from a Bond sale. Well what has happen on the way to the May Sale? It seems the City Manager did not pick some key projects this time around. When ask by one of the Black Council members why there was nothing in this first round the Manager said" to put something else in you will need to take something out" none of them had a TAKE out answer. They could had cut the Arts design in half and sold the rest of them in November. I do not understand how you ask a question and get an answer with no ready solution.

That is one of the reasons I am running for City Council to ask the right questions and give some guidance to the process.

Is 214-670-5525 a Dallas City Hall Tax Paid Phone !

Is 214-670-5525 a City of Dallas phone number ? In the day of caller ID why would any fool use a City phone to make a political campaign call ? Jesse Diaz is a active man did the caller think he was going to like a tax payers phone being used? I know as we get closer to the election all sorts of trick will be used but I hope none are illegal because every one in the race will report them.

Lamar Hunt a Great Man!

While in Miami for Super Bowl I had the opportunity to read different news papers. In the Miami SunPost I found an article on Lamar Hunt my Dallas Texas Homeboy. I have always admired Mr. Hunt because he was an Out of the Box thinker. I did not know the contribution he made toward helping Black football players in the League. It seems that there was an unwritten rule about how many Blacks to have on the field at anyone time . In contrast Mr. Hunt rostered and fielded teams based on talent not quotas. The AFL also recruited from all black colleges and gave Blacks more game time and positions to play.

I am happy to have known Lamar Hunt the man who created the Super Bowl , the AFL and judged people on talent not the color of their skins.!

City Council Campaign

My City Council Campaign is up and going. Good volunteers and organization. Thanks to my son Dirk his campaign skills are coming in handy. I am really having fun.Have not had this much fun since I ran John Wiley Price's campaigns. I got a text message that I was being taken off the air at KKDA until after the election.
It seems one of my opponent's called in and complained. Service Broadcasting made a decision to take me off. I thank Service Broadcasting for 15 good years of being on the air giving service to my Community. Ten years I hosted Community Connection every
Thursday night for the past five years as part of the Willis Johnson morning show I have enjoyed every moment. I wonder if my opponent thinks by taking me off the air will help her? The people who have heard me for the last 15 years will not forget me
and my service to my Community in two months. May 12, 2007 they will still remember Betty Culbreath and My Record of Making a Difference. I am sure there will be more tricks and all kind of nasty things said but voters are not fools.

Thank you for the support you have already given. I am just surprised every day upon my return from the Post Office at how giving people are and their commitment to good government. I still need money and volunteers.

Ms. Allen in the future please write what you want to say, read it over and over before you say it to the Media. I know maybe you were in a situation and it was spin time but sometime it is better to not say a word. I am not sure if you said this but the DMN has it in quotation marks."the woman lost her job over giving a fake name to a police officer over her son witnessing a scuffle"" this was not just any woman she was a police Officer and what she did was a crime and more so since she has filled these same types of charges on people she arrest. Not a good example for her son. So do not make it sound like poor lady lost her job there are 6,660 people in the jail right behind your office who have lost their jobs cannot make bond and sitting there hoping for justice. Having worked at the County 20 years I do know that defense Attorneys walk in the Court offices all day asking for cases to be dismissed and the assistant DA's do it without calling upstairs.The fact that Mr. Lyons got a case dismissed is no news it's done all day every day. Maybe if he had not been on TV and delivering termination notices this would not have been news. I hope something is learned from this "keep some of your business to yourself".

I was happy to read that DA Crieg Watkins was looking at the DNA policy and willing to give it another look. What I do not understand is why Fred Moss over at SMU thinks the law-and order folks will see this as an attack on the police and prosecutors. The police and prosecutors work with the information given them in a case. If technology is not available or was not used ,what is wrong with simply
doing the test and knowing the truth. The victim should be happy to know if the wrong person is locked up, because that means the Pert. is still out there hurting others. Maybe it is something that I do not know about the criminal justice system ,but I believed for years it was about catching the real criminal not just picking up any one to put in jail. I hope the guilty are jailed and the innocent
set free.

What Is It About SOB's that Bring Out Hypocrisy?

The City of Dallas has the HIGHEST RATE OF STD'S in the Country. The City of Dallas has the HIGHEST RATE of SYPHILIS among young adults in the Country. The City of Dallas has the HIGHEST RATE of NEW HIV infected women in the Country. Many of the new infected live in the Southern Sector. The numbers of people infected are 90% related to unprotected SEX. With the numbers of Sexually Transmitted disease in this City and County and not one Soul is talking about it. I must say IBOC and Friendship West have been very active in making their congregation aware of HIV/AIDS and working on prevention.

I have not heard one Elected Official call for a stop or meeting or any thing to educate the public or simply say stop Young people.

Yet when they get word that a SOB (sexually oriented business)is being built on Westmoreland that will sell and rent Adult movies they go crazy. Where have they been ? It has had license for two years .The City of Dallas was sued by this industry and lost at the Supreme Court. In fact the Court said that the City must make available 5% off it's land mass for these businesses. The City then passed an ordinance governing SOB's.

We have no SOB's in Southern Dallas or in Oak Cliff so what is the cause of all the SEX in Southern Dallas that's causing all the STD's? I have no dog in this fight just common sense. I do not want an SOB in my neighborhood, or near my home, school or church. But if it is legal and the Court says we must allow them, the City has done its best to make them locate in industrial District or manufacturing district that should not impact neighborhoods.

Pastor Ted Haggard in Colorado who led the move against homosexuality by day and practice it by night remind me of some of the people that have come out with some very odd speeches. It reminds me of the Congressman who hated pornography but keep a locked case of it under his desk for viewing until a clean up crew found it and put in trash by mistake.

I hate to see the Political operatives make this an issue during election time when they know full and well what the Court said. Playing on the emotions of good people should be against the law. I do not want my area to go down any more then it has in the past five years ,but I will not advocate violation of anyone's right nor will I lie to the public for a vote. I will fight for my neighborhood by any means necessary.

Dallas Housing Authority Election

If the Board of Commissioners ratify my confirmation as Chair of The Dallas Housing
Authority tomorrow, I will become the first woman, and first Black person to serve as Chair of that Board .

Elite News Martin Luther King Parade

Thanks to the Elite news and Mr. William Blair and family for selecting me as one of the Grand marshals for the 21st annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. The Parade went on as schedule and was wonderful. The Breakfast for the Marshall was held at the beautiful African American museum in Fair park. The Grand Marshal was Dr. Harry Robinson of the museum. Sandra Lora was coordinator for parade and took it into another level. I will be there next year.

Dallas Cowboys and T.O. Could Be Helped !

It is sad for Jerry Jones to spend so much money and time for a group of People to make a good Team and the Calvin Hill and wife staff does not recognize what the real problems are. We read the news clips about Team not ready to play, team did not play
as if they wanted to win. T.O. Missed catch, T.O. talk to much. There are some real problems at Valley Ranch and it has nothing to do with Talent. The Calvin Hill and wife team has not a clue. Number one Calvin is a fine man ,but he is an ex player still living his life as a player through the players he is suppose to help. I do not know his wife's professional background but I do know that some of the problems the Team suffer clearly could be corrected if someone knew what they were doing. I do not know Robert Newhouses job and again I know Robert and he is a very good guy but being a good guy and knowing how to help a person in crisis are different things.
I offered to help DISD for free, I went and spoke with Jerry Jones five years ago and offered to help him with his players problems he told me he had Calvin Hill for that job. I said ok not wanting to say anything about Calvin but, I said to myself
you might have him but someone is not taking care of the none football related issues that plagued your team.
What can I say today the very same situation exist and he still has Calvin Hill and wife doing the job. Jerry Jones knows how to make money but he does not know mental and social service need that even the Rich suffer from, and the young men he hires come from very different backgrounds and they bring their home issues into training camp with them and they are not going to share that with anyone who might effect their ability to play ball.
Some one call Jerry and tell him Betty will still work with his players and work
through their personal issues so their minds will be free to play ball, and they will not get shot nor have accidents leaving strip clubs.
